Calmness Enables Better Action

Calmness is not innate; it can be acquired through deliberate training. This is why it is more commonly seen in people of a certain age. The brain remembers the positive outcomes of your previous calm deliberations, and through a reward mechanism combined with increasing proficiency, it encourages you to perform even better the next time—ultimately stimulating your brain's potential.

Every strategist makes a habit of making calm judgments and conducting deep analysis of situations.

A horse-drawn carriage rushing forward relentlessly might eventually take you to a place you never wanted to go, or even get you lost. Sometimes the consequences are irreversible. At times like these, you need to calm down, stop the carriage, appreciate the scenery, ask for directions, communicate with reliable companions, consult your tools, or even turn back to purchase necessary supplies. Proceed step by step, and only after thorough preparation should you continue your journey. You can never predict what you might gain from each encounter with others, no matter how skilled you are—because you are human. That’s precisely why real experiences are so precious, because your journey will certainly include other travelers.

Avoid doing things you’ll regret. The human brain has sufficient capacity to map out consequences in advance. In life, you’re free to act however you see fit—that’s your right. Life is often like a relaxed, pleasant journey. Travel lightly, wisely, and enrich yourself along the way. When the right moment comes, the quality you seek will naturally be yours. Work, however, may not allow such leisure. If you want to become a certain kind of person, begin by identifying yourself as that person: if you aspire to be a painter, paint more; if a musician, try to feel your own heart; if an entrepreneur, study people and materials. If you don’t truly commit yourself or give yourself enough opportunity to gracefully demonstrate your potential, it’s almost impossible to become the person you envision.

People should progress under the guidance of a central, sound philosophy, improving as they go. This is especially true for adults, as we are no longer naive youths. Calmness does not mean perpetual inaction; rather, it is an attitude toward life. You can still carry passion—it’s not mutually exclusive. Having inner desires is normal. When expressed, this manifests as a composed, methodical demeanor—the hallmark of a master who has everything under control. Only by truly loving life can you receive life’s blessings. Calmness provides the most effortless way to experience both the good and the bad that life offers.

An eagle never rushes when targeting a rabbit. A child, upon seeing a desired toy, merely sighs. Everyone knows dangerous places are off-limits.

In this restless era, the rarest ability is not "act immediately," but "act better." And better action always begins with calmness. Moreover, people will inevitably make mistakes—no matter how calm you are. Let data speak, let science speak, let truth speak; they will provide excellent guidance.
